Project background

When using a manual wheelchair, SVH patients are required to manually put the brakes on before getting up or sitting down to prevent the wheels from moving. If the brakes aren't activated, the movement of the wheelchair can cause the patient to fall. Some patients don't follow the procedure or forget due to their condition.

A self-braking manual wheelchair will be of great assistant. By ensuring that the brakes are applied automatically anytime the patient is getting up or leaning forward, it would reduce patient accidents. Falling is one of the leading reasons of hospitalization for the elderly.
