Our group worked on a general project with Saint Vincent's Hospital to generate a solution to the improper use of wheelchairs A common problem is that patients forget, or are faced with mental and physical limitations that do not allow to them to engage the brakes, when getting up or sitting on the wheelchair, causing them to accidentally fall off the chair.

Problem Statement:

We identified the need for a mechanism that automatically locks wheelchair brakes when the patient is getting up, about to sit down, or is improperly seated on the chair (which can cause falls when unlocked).
