Project background

Homeless shelters are temporary places for people to stay. Ottawa downtown itself has more than 3 main shelters which reach capacity extremely quickly especially in the cold winter. To respond to the demand for space the EORC needs extra facilities to be able to give everyone a warm bed to sleep in. Your goal will be to help build a modular house/structure. This means that parts of the structure can be assembled in different ways to give it a different purpose in a different configuration. The teams will be split up into different teams to accomplish this modular house. The teams are construction, solar, automation and bed.

The construction team is responsible for the walls, floor and roof of the structure. The solar team is responsible for providing power for the automation team and heating the air in the house, all with renewable energy. The automation team is responsible for lighting and any other feature asked by the client inside the house and finding ways to conserve energy. The bed team is responsible for making a light portable bed made of cardboard that homeless people could use inside and out and that can support 1 adult.
