Project background
Most people operating a walker with brakes use both hands to grip and pull up the handles that control the cable brake system and engage the bars on the two rear wheels. This system is not intended to stop the walker's forward motion with one hand as the walker unit would twist away and leave the user unbalanced with a risk of falling. Your task is to design a braking system that will engage both sides of the brake unit at the same time with the use of only one hand and preferably without requiring any grip strength on the good hand or at least minimal. As almost all walkers with brakes use a cable system, it is hoped that the solution can be employed on a variety of walkers. Components could include powered mechanical operation and a control unit. A waterproof system is needed for outdoors.
Past attempts
There has been no previous attempt to solving this problem however a braking project has been worked on for wheelchairs and might be useful. You can find their attempt here: https://makerepo.com/project_proposals/76
