Many people think recycling is already happening on a large scale however much of the plastic that is put in recycling bins doesn’t actually get recycled and a lot of garbage doesn’t even make it to the bins in the first place. Many countries produce more waste then they can process at home and have to send it overseas which is usually very poorly managed. A first step however is making sure that everything that can currently be recycled is being done properly. Many people make mistakes when sorting their own garbage or they simply put everything in the trash without thinking about it. Your task is to help people reliably recycle, it must be hassle free and simple so that people don’t mind using it. This can take the shape of an app or a system to detect the material of an item or an AR app to detect the shape/identify an item, all to help decide where an item should go and be properly disposed of. The more automated the system can be, the better since it would help reduce errors that people make on a daily basis and which fills landfills unnecessarily.
