DESCRIPTION
The project aims to design a compact, affordable, and low-maintenance bat box that accurately tracks bat visits and provides essential shelter for endangered bats. The bat box features two IR break beam sensors to count and record bat entries and exits. The design prevents predator entry, offers sufficient roosting space, and is easy to install on any surface. Built with cost-effective materials the total cost of the prototype is $74.97. Challenges in duplicating this design may include sourcing suitable, affordable sensors and ensuring accurate data tracking under various weather conditions and consistently achieving the ideal temperature range which requires careful placement of the box and possibly added insulation.
