DESCRIPTION

We want to design a system and user interface that improves the current problems with automating the use of 3D printers, while eliminating the troubles with SD cards to enhance the user and staff experience with 3D printing, organizing, time management, and ease of use.


Through the use of Ross Dashboard we have created a UI that will display the availability of printers, their status, and other key information relevant to the current print job such as time left and filament usage. With the use of OctoPrint in conjunction with HTTP GET Requests, we were able to get these values in real time. OctoPrint allows users to upload STL and g-code files to a raspberry pi connected to the printers. This will decrease wasted time in Makerspace while using 3D printers compared to the current system in place.

Some struggles people may face in replicating this design is coding. People will have to code the GET Request accordingly for their purpose. Not only that, they will have to be comfortable in accessing the raspberry pi through ssh and being able to create multiple instances of OctoPrint on various ports of the raspberry pi's ip address. To add, people will need to know how to set a static ip address for the raspberry pi. Also, a struggle people may face is coding Ross Video Dasboard for all possible scenarios. Moreover, people will need to know how to code GCODE Scripts for OctoPrint.
