Project background

Navigating in a foreign space for a visually impaired person can be extremely challenging. The Public Health Agency of Canada is looking to create a tactile map for the blind using 3D printers or other suitable technologies, to make the first floor of 785 Carling avenue accessible for employees with vision impairments. This is part of the accessible and inclusive meeting spaces initiative, which is serving as the benchmark for accessibility within the public service, and is informing the work being done within Centre Block and the Parliamentary Precinct. The end result will be presented to the subcommittee on tactile mapping for the Parliamentary Precinct, which is currently exploring options for tactile mapping on Parliament Hill.
