Project background
For people with mobility challenges there currently exists 3 options of assistive devices: cane, walker and wheelchair. When mobility declines and a person needs more support then a cane can offer, it can sometimes be difficult to accept using a walker out in public. This client has come up with a design that is a mix between a cane and a walker (essentially a cane with wheels) so that users can remain upright for a longer period and avoid needing a clunky walker.
Your task is to improve the current design by simplifying the components. They should be easily available and taken off the shelf with little to no modifications. Two braking systems must also be added: first, a backstop like on a roller skate must be incorporated and second, a hand-activated brake is needed. The design must be ergonomic and must look good. It should be weather resistant and easily transportable.
