Contexte du projet
Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is a great exercise for stability and strength. It is however difficult to train out of the water, to build up the ability to try it out on water or just to get some good exercise. The client has a preliminary prototype (see pictures above) however it lacks adjustability and refinement.
This project is divided in 2 parts and each team will only work on one of them.
Board and paddle (bungee)
Your task is to design a platform which resembles a paddle board and can simulate the instability of water with a resistance mechanism for the paddle. There must be a mechanism to adjust the lateral stability of the board easily from 100% stable to extremely unstable. It must be able to take the weight of a 125kg person and be between 60-80cm in width and max 200cm in length. This platform will need to be elevated off the floor such that natural paddling form (blade depth under water) can be reproduced, as well as long and wide enough to demand real-board paddle 'catch' and stroke. This ground clearance should be between 15-25cm. It should also be easy to assemble and store (max weight of any one piece is 12kg). The paddle must be adjustable for different user heights and be between 140-210cm long. There should also be markings on the paddle for hand placement. The resistance for the paddle can come from bungees/elastics and they must be able to be changed out easily to vary the resistance between 10-150N.
Fan unit
A rowing machine unit has the advantage of no resistance 'on the way back' of the paddle (vs using bungees). However the rowing machine has too much resistance, even at the lowest setting, for a paddle board application.
Your task is to design a fly-wheel type resistance mechanism for the paddle. It must have variable resistance, starting at an extremely small amount. It must be easy and intuitive to install and to use. It should be compatible with the paddle board prototype. Ideally it should have a mechanism for feedback like speed and resistance data.
