Project background

Patients with tremor can't use utensils due to an involuntary rhythmic muscle contraction leading to shaking movements in the hands. These patients have to be fed by volunteers or nursing staff. Finding an adaptive solution to stabilize spoons, forks and hair brushes will be of great importance. Tremor cancellation devices like liftware steady are already commercially available, but they are expensive and can be difficult to ship to Canada. With motors, gyro sensors, and 3D printing, the cost for this type of device could be reduced. This steady utensil would be more affordable to a lot of people with tremor.
