Bethany Children’s Health Center is an innovative leader in the field of pediatric rehabilitation and 24-hour complex care.  They serve children from birth to 21 years old who have complex medical and physical disabilities. Their goal is to maximize every child’s potential and increase their level of independence.  Many of the kids have significant motor deficits which make doing every day things such as walking, sitting, playing, and even communicating very difficult without the use of assistive technology like wheelchairs, standers, and switches.  

They use a conveyor belt to deliver snacks at a pick up window. The Center would like a stationary robotic arm to pick up a snack off the counter beside it and place it on the conveyor belt.

Your task is to design a robotic arm system that can be operated in 2 different ways. For patients with enough dexterity they should be able to move the arm around with a joystick or buttons with full control. For patients who cannot use this option there should be 2 buttons/switches for left/right where the arm would move to the side and pick up (or let go) with 1 click. The arm must be able to pick up at least 1 snack from it's base level. It must also be secure on the counter and have the option of an emergency stop. It should be intuitive to control an easy to maintain.
