The Growcer utilizes a Deep water culture (DWC) approach to hydroponics and thus uses 24” X 32” rafts which float on top of water. Within these rafts they grow lettuce and other leafy greens. See the first picture for general reference.

One of the major factors for their customers when calculating the units return on investment (ROI) is the amount of labor associated with operating the machine. A large amount of labor is directed to cleaning the boards after each growing cycle. As the boards sit in the water, algae starts to build up on the surfaces of the board (As shown in the picture). Currently customers clean the raft by hand using scrubbing brushes and the hose. Boards are currently rotomolded and fabricated from PE High Density.

The Growcer is looking to have a system developed that would automate this cleaning process. Below are some of the general requirement as well as the utilities already available.

  • As compact as possible
  • Wall mounted solution given limited floor space available
  • Ability to clean one or multiple boards at a time
  • Ability for customer to perform other tasks while the cleaning is taking place
  • Abillity to clean all contours of the board as shown in the dimensioned drawing

Utilities Available:
  • 1/2” potable water line @ 30 PSI
  • Maximum of two 120v X 15amp circuits to power the system
  • Floor drain available within 5 ft of the installation location
  • Rigid wall for mounting
