People with visual impairment will often travel with white canes to detect obstacles around them and people with physical problems also use canes for support. Some of the latter users have very limited use of the other hand due to their impairment. However, to store or easily transport it when not in use, it can fold to be less cumbersome. These canes usually fold based on an elastic cord connection (like tent poles) that allow the 3 sections of the cane to be pulled apart and folded. This method of folding requires hand and arm strength as well as dexterity to accomplish the task which many users do not have.

Your task is to design a cane that can be easily folded with only one hand and has the same function as any other cane. It should be as light and durable as possible. The concept to permit folding without a cord link has been used in a folding dressing stick and this may offer potential for scaling up to a cane.
