Client Information
Digital accessibility is slowly becoming more common however there are still many problems that a person with visual impairment faces every day. Some pictures that you might come across have alternative text which describes what is in the picture for people who can’t see for themselves however not all of them do. There are a few applications that exist which use AI to tell you about your surroundings by being able to take a picture of something around you. However that technology is rarely available for images or pictures that are already on a device. Your task is to create an application that could detect what is in an image when it does not have any alternative text. It should be easy to use and be able to say out loud the description (text to speech).
Past attempts
There has been one previous attempt to solve this problem. The detection of handwritten text was a great feature however it can be improved and detect the writing more efficiently. The ability to use other file formats then Word would be needed and the ability to detect and properly read with punctuation marks would greatly help comprehension.
