Client Information
The current braking systems for pediatric gait trainers are manual, requiring the parent or caregiver being near enough to employ a foot switch to lock a wheel(s).Your task would be to develop a system to apply brakes remotely on the wheels of pediatric gait trainers for use by persons who need to quickly stop the motion of these units in unsafe conditions such as going down a slope or nearing a staircase. Pediatric walkers and gait trainers do not have uniform wheels between units or standard sizes. Therefore, the device envisaged would attempt to mimic the braking that locks onto the tire but be adaptable and flexible enough to work on a variety of models. It would activate the lock through remote control from a reasonable distance and the control could be programmed for a smartphone or a separate button.
