People with limited mobility can have trouble moving and lifting items in and out of microwaves, even if the microwave is on the counter. This can make everyday life much more difficult for some and cause them to lose a lot of independence. Your task would be to develop a system to transfer items (dishes, plates, etc) on a counter into a microwave (on the counter with the door open) and then retrieve these items from the microwave unit and return them to the counter where they were originally. In both cases the item could be placed on part of the transfer system on the counter. The overall system would operate remotely and be compatible with and not interfere with normal and safe microwave operation including the need for manual door opening and closing.
